Digital Transformation at Solothurn Hospitals with ServiceNow

The Solothurn hospitals (soH) have defined digitization as one of their strategic guidelines. In this context, the intranet plays a crucial role as a central platform for improved internal communication and information exchange. Previously based on SharePoint, they now rely on the versatile ServiceNow platform.

Digital innovations such as bedside terminals, navigation apps, and video consultations enrich the patient experience while easing the burden on staff. They increase efficiency and thus enable more intensive care for patients. Within IT and HR, the ServiceNow platform plays a key role in the digital transformation, supported by comprehensive functions such as IT Service Management (ITSM), Project Portfolio Management (PPM) and Human Resource Management System (HRMS).
The intranet forms an indispensable basis as an internal information hub for many soH topics It is a central component of internal communication and collaboration and grants easy access to important information. The switch to ServiceNow technology ensures a modern, future-proof basis that meets the requirements.


For the implementation, Arctive Ltd. was selected as an experienced specialist in ServiceNow, for the validated HealthCare/Pharma environment. We developed an intranet based on the Employee Center Pro plugin from ServiceNow. The new intranet seamlessly follows the previous structure, design and functionalities.


During the revision, emphasis was placed on making the changeover easier for employees. The content structures of the old intranet were retained and content carefully revised to ensure up-to-dateness. Core functionalities such as the posting of targeted news and operational messages, the management of menu plans for the various locations, event management, a favorites function and a page search were implemented and configured. Thanks to the excellent import functionality of the ServiceNow platform, existing content could be specifically transferred from the previous solution.

In addition, an RSS feed on the homepage, a configurable footer with the most important addresses, and a "bazaar" for the internal supply and demand platform were developed. These functions enable employees to access the information they need quickly and easily.
Particular attention was paid to a modern, professional look in line with soH's corporate design. The authorization concept ensures that only authorized persons have access to specific areas.
The intranet was put through its paces in extensive tests to ensure smooth operation and employee satisfaction. The rollout was prepared, implemented and followed up jointly by us, IT and Marketing Communications soH. Employees received training and tips on how to use it optimally.

With great commitment and expertise, a modern intranet was created that provides employees with a central point of access to information and enables efficient communication and collaboration. Data management was simplified and centralized. Other exciting projects with soH are in the starting blocks, including the development of a solution for searching and managing hazardous material notices and the integration of existing service portal functionalities directly into the intranet.
The Solothurn hospitals are continuously driving forward their process optimization and digitalization. The new intranet based on ServiceNow marks another milestone in this direction.
